Whitefield Community Primary School, Whitefield Manchester, M45 6DP
Welcome back to school after the summer holidays. Year 2 have had a fantastic first few weeks back. We hope you enjoy finding out about what we have been up to.
Year 2 are very excited about our new playground equipment. They are also enjoying learning in the outdoor classroom. Some photographs have been uploaded at the bottom of the page if you would like to have a look.
Your child will be given spellings to learn each week. Please ensure that you support them and check that they understand the spelling rules for each word set (where these apply). They must also be able to spell all of the Year 1 and Year 2 words. These are needed throughout their reading and writing and are, therefore, very important.
Your child will be learning their x2, x5 and x10 times tables and division facts. They need to know these in and out of order. The children have access to Mathletics and Mangahigh, both of which contain activities to challenge them and develop all areas of their mathematical problem solving and reasoning skills. We hope that they will be used in combination with their work in class to ensure children have mathematical fluency. Please encourage your child to use these games and activities and to have fun with Numeracy.
We are keen to strengthen confidence in reading and promote a love of
books. Reading is a priority in school with opportunities for individual
reading, Guided Reading, class reading and paired reading. Your child
will have a different book in Literacy lessons each half term and they will
be basing their work on this.
Bug Club is an excellent way for children to explore texts at a level they
are confident with. They will be able to collect points for correctly
answering questions whilst they are reading. This is monitored and
recognised in school. The website
