Welcome to Year 3 - Mrs Whittle,
Mrs Keogh (AM) and Mrs Amjad (PM)
Our core text this half term is How to be a Viking by Cressida Cowell. We will be producing three pieces of writing: a job advert, an explanation text about the Vikings and a playscript of their journey to England.
This half term we will be rehearsing place value in 3 digit numbers, solving additions and subtractions using place value, multiplying and dividing by 10 and count in steps of 10, 50 and 100. We will be adding 2 and 3 digit numbers using partitioning, recognising and sorting multiples of 2,3,4,5 and 10.We will be doubling the 4 times table to find the 8 times table and deriving division facts for the 8 times table. We will be looking at right angles and understanding that angles are measured in degrees.
In Science lessons we are looking at Animals, including humans. We will be identifying that animals, including humans, need the right types and amount of nutrition, and that they cannot make their own food and they get nutrition from what they eat. We will be identifying that humans and some other animals have skeletons and muscles for support, protection and movement.
Our Topic this half term will have a history focus and our question is: ‘Were the Vikings Vicious?’ This will also link this to our English work. We will find out about where the Vikings came from and what happened when they invaded England. We will be creating Viking shields to decorate our classroom and investigating different aspects of Viking life.
