Welcome To Year 4
Welcome to another busy half term in Year 4! We have an exciting few weeks ahead of us - with lots of exciting things planned. Here is our learning journey for the half term ahead...
As ever we will focus on SPAG this half term. We will then use this knowledge to improve our writing through a range of genres including persuasive writing, information texts, and a diary extract. All linked to our core text: The Great Kapok Tree by Lynne Cherry.
There will be a strong focus on mental addition, subtraction multiplication and division in maths this term, through our numeracy lessons and a separate big maths lesson for half hour each day. We will also be practising different written methods for these four operations. Later we will work on fractions and decimals and their equivalence. Throughout these themes we will be improving our problem solving techniques.
In this unit children will work towards answering the Quest question ‘How can changes to the environment affect the things that live there?’ They will construct and interpret food chains, identifying producer, prey, consumer and predator. They will realise that the availability of food is an important factor when considering how animals respond to change in the environment.
Our Topic for the first half term will have a geography focus. We will be further developing our understanding of why the rainforests should be important to us all?
We will be doing this through art, design and technology, music and ICT
