WCPS gets UNICEF Rights Respecting Gold Award

We are incredibly proud to be the first mainstream primary school in Bury, to receive the GOLD UNICEF RIGHTS RESPECTING SCHOOL AWARD!

Whitefield Community Primary School aims to be a school where children’s rights are at the heart of our ethos and culture. We are committed to improving wellbeing and enabling every child to develop their talents and abilities to their full potential.

As part of this commitment, we work closely with the UNICEF Rights Respecting Schools Award (RRSA) programme. We are extremely proud to have achieved the Gold: Rights Respecting School Award, the highest level of recognition awarded by UNICEF UK.

This award recognises that the principles of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) are fully embedded in our school’s values, policies and everyday practice. It reflects our commitment to ensuring that children’s rights are understood, respected and actively promoted throughout the school community. Achieving Gold status means that children’s rights are not only taught but are lived and experienced by our pupils in their learning, relationships and decision-making.

This work aligns strongly with our school ethos, our commitment to equality and inclusion, and our vision of putting children at the centre of everything we do.

UNICEF is the world’s leading organisation working for children and young people and their rights. In 1989, governments across the world agreed that all children have the same rights by adopting the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC). These rights describe what children need to survive, grow, participate and reach their full potential.

At Whitefield Community Primary School, pupils learn about their rights by putting them into practice every day. A Rights Respecting School models respect for rights in all relationships – between pupils, staff, families and the wider community.
